Going Underground With Your Digital Camera

Introduction

Looking out from a watery cave
Looking out from a watery cave
Everyone has heard about extreme sports, well, beginning with this article, I am going to introduce you to extreme photography. Go where you have never gone before with your camera, go underground. Go a spelunking. I am not talking about visiting sites like Howe's Caverns or some other such tourist site. I am talking about finding a hole in the ground and crawling in it with one or two companions and your camera. Join a spelunking club and team up with an experienced spelunker for your own safety.

Subterranean Photography

Subterranean photography is like no photography that you have ever done above ground. Spelunking will not only challenge you physically; it will challenge you as a photographer. There will be many new skills and techniques to learn. How challenging will it be? Lighting will be one of your biggest challenges. Think of it this way, in many cases, it will be like trying to light a football field with only a single candle. Are you up for the challenge?

Your spelunking partner doubles as a photographer's assistant.

I have found a willing assistant to be invaluable to photographing caves because of the techniques I employ.

Painting with light

A broader light painting
A broader light painting
My favorite light for subterranean photography is Lithium powered flashlight. My partner "paints" the area I am photographing with the flashlight. When I am photographing a large area, the light is swept smoothly back and forth over the entire area for the duration of exposure. The light must be kept moving to avoid odd-looking highlights. When I am photographing small, detailed areas, only a little "painting" is required. "Painting With Light" requires considerable communications and coordination between you and your assistant.

I have also used an off-camera flash to fill in the shadows, but the results were never as polished or as consistent.

Position the light as far from the camera as possible.

You need to separate the Lithium flashlight as far from the camera as possible. If the painting light and the camera are at the same angle to what you are photographing, the resulting picture will have a 2D effect.

The problem of "White Balance"

Stalagtites and Stalagmites
Stalagtites and Stalagmites
The color temperature of light in caves can vary considerably, so I usually shoot with my camera set to "Auto White Balance."

Shoot in the RAW

Shooting in the RAW is always best if your camera makes that file format available to you. In the RAW, your camera records a wider range of colors and records them just as the sensor sees them.

Basic equipment

Besides the high-powered Lithium flashlight, you will need a tripod and two zoom lenses, one in the 20 to 100-mm range and the other in the 100 to 200-mm range. The tripod is mandatory because most exposures will be in the 20 to 90 second range.

What about tourist caverns?

off-camera flash unit

You can take some exciting pictures there too and there are over 200 of them in the United States. There is always an element of danger when you go crawling into an unknown hole in the ground so if you are looking for the safe route to cave photography take the tourist cavern route. Carlsbad Caverns and Mammoth Cave National Parks are two good ones to visit for the photographer.

The most expensive paintings

Jackson Pollock’s ”Number 5
Jackson Pollock’s ”Number 5

So how much would you pay to have this picture hanging on your wall?I have to admit it’s not my choice of artwork but someone did think enough of it to pay $148.1 million dollars for this Jackson Pollock’s called”Number. 5.1948″t is as of 2009 stands as the most expensive picture paid for so far.

Next in the list of most paid for painting, is one entitled “Woman 3″ by William de Kooning, it sounds crazy to me but this was bought for a mere $145.4 million Dollars, this is the number two most expensive.

Perhaps a little closer to my liking is the number three most paid for painting “Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I”by Gustav Klimt A snip at $142.8 million Dollars.

This a favourite of many in the top five is a painting by Good old Vincent Van Gogh with his painting “Portrait of Dr. Gachet”, this one you could have got for $134.6 million Dollars.

But I have to go for the painting standing at the number five spot “Bal du Moulin de la Galette” by the very recognizable style of Pierre-Auguste Renoir cheep at half the price for only $127.4 million Dollars.

Maybe I could save up and get myself something to put on my wall one day,? my all-time favourite artist is Monet
So Ill see if I can get hold of a poster of Le dejeuner sur l’herbe.

How To Draw A Self-Portrait

How To Draw A Self-Portrait

Rembrant Self-Portrait
Rembrant Self-Portrait
Painting or drawing a self-portrait is very rewarding and a window to your creativity located in the right side of your brain. The seventeenth-century genius Rembrandt Van Rijn was the best when it came to exploring the expression of human emotions through self-portraiture.

Self-portraiture needs you to combine all component skills of drawing: perception of edges, spaces and shapes, relationships to angels and proportions, lights and shadows, the gestalt of the thing drawn, and the skills of cross-hatching and continuous tone. Betty Edwards in 1979 wrote an amazing book called Drawing on the right Side of the brain that explains all these skills and guides you through drawing the perfect self-portrait.

This process is the key to getting into the creative zone that makes painting and drawing so liberating and connects you to your innermost being. I can really recommend taking a risk to believe that drawing is not just a talent but also skills that anyone can tap into and enjoy if they are interested.

The tricky part of drawing or painting a self-portrait is that your have to concentrate on seeing yourself in a mirror or on a picture and simultaneously apply your right brain drawing skills to overcome the visual distortions that occur when you look at yourself or a picture from a two-dimensional angel. Many suggest that starting with a picture is not as authentic but for some this might be easier before attempting to use a mirror. Start with what suits your best and go for it.

Before you begin get comfortable and allow for at least an hour to finish your drawing. If your want to use paint straight away start with at least an hour and then build on what your have! Oil painting is the most difficult and needs a lot of preparation and patience.

My instructions are for a self-portrait drawing with graphite pencil using a plastic eraser as your tool for shading and creating light and shadows. However these right brain visual skills can be applied to all modes of painting or drawing, e.g. oil, acrylic, pastels, oil pastels etc.

It is best to use a picture that has the same format as your paper. Format is very important, and will make the process of getting the right dimensions easier.

Place your paper tightly on a smooth surface and tone the ground a continuous middle-value-tone. Scrape graphite off your pencil and then use your index finger or a paper towel to rub the graphite into the paper with an elliptical rubbing motion. Get ready to get very dirty but its fun and I believe calms the nerves.

Sharpen the eraser by cutting a wedge shape so that there is a triangular end to work with. It is important to first erase out the shapes of the lights. Each shadow is a specific shape and you must look for the negative lighted shapes. A good way to see negative lighted shapes is to turn your picture upside-down. This is a great tip. It really helps to focus your attention on what is there, rather than seeing the whole picture and not the detail.

Initially there will not be much detail, but nuances of light and dark shapes. Erase the lightest areas of the negative spaces, and be always aware of relationships of angles relative to edges of the format; check the relationship of size and proportions relative to one another.

After this, use your pencil to work in the dark areas, eyes, hair, shoulder etc. Now the picture will start emerging. Keep your tones smooth, using cross-hatching or a continuous tone or even both. Feel your way to what is best as your likeness emerges. Check this is happening by turning both the picture and your drawing upside-down to see if your picture is evolving and your are not putting too much detail into it.

By now you will feel yourself really drawing and experiencing the gestalt of what you are drawing. Gestalt is the German word for form and is defined as an organised whole in experience.

Applying this exciting right brain visual skill when drawing yourself or another person from life will draw your attention to how beautiful we are when we notice the beauty of our eyes or the distinct shape of our noses

Homemade Pan Pizza Without Using An Oven

I love pizzas! So to get more out of my favorite energy-boosting meal, I have decided to have it always ready whenever I am hungry at home, and so I bought some dough for my ref to keep. And not having an oven to cook it is not a problem at all. I just want my pizza simple and not like the fancy-looking ones bought at the pizza parlors.

Aside from the dough, I bought myself slices of spiced ham, Quickmelt cheese, hotdog, green pepper, a bottle of McCormick’s pizza seasoning with its blend of pepper, garlic and herbs, cooking oil, and a sachet of Italian pizza sauce. These are all I need for my homemade pizza.

Procedure

So we don’t have an oven at home. How do we do it? Simple, we fry the dough. I bought my dough with the size that would fit my frying pan at home. And it's going to be our favorite homemade pan pizza.

So first, we prepare the toppings for our pizza. Pour the pizza sauce in a bowl. Fry our spiced ham and hotdog. Slice them into smaller pieces. Also slice small pieces of green pepper.

We heat the frying pan and pour a small amount of cooking oil on it so the dough won’t stick in the pan. Fry our dough flipping it over once in a while until it looks toasted enough. Remove the dough from the pan and put it in a plate. Evenly spread the pizza sauce on the dough. Generously sprinkle it with grated Quickmelt cheese.

Put the slices of ham, hotdogs and green pepper at the top then sprinkle it with our McCormick seasoning. Carefully move the prepared pizza into the frying pan again, cover it and heat it again so the cheese becomes melted enough. Just make sure the bottom of the dough won’t get burned.

Slice our freshly-cooked fried pan pizza, serve immediately and enjoy

Emperor Tamarins: The Coolest Little Guys in the Rainforest

  • unique, cool features
The Emperor
The Emperor
Weighing in at barely one pound and seldom larger than 10” in length, the emperor tamarin is among the smallest of the rainforest monkeys. But what it may lack in size it more than compensates for in speed, agility, dexterity, eyesight, and raw intelligence. Possessing longer legs than other tamarins, emperors are faster and more agile in locomotion. This is one reason why they are able to maintain a dominant social position among competing tamarin species. And although they do not possess gripping, prehensile tails like some other monkeys, the long, flexible tails they have developed allow them to move with remarkable balance and agility, enabling them to jump great lateral distances between trees, and navigate high limbs that are too unstable for even smaller monkeys. Although male tamarins are generally larger than females (both as juveniles and adults), they show none of the dominant behavior common to other primates. Neither sex displays the typical nervous or “flitty” behavior seen in other small monkeys, and are able to respond instantaneously with quick, precise movements when circumstances warrant it. Additionally, the emperors’ unique coloring and characteristic drooping “mustache” make for excellent camouflage among the variegated tree leaves, and is believed to contribute to their social status.

Well adaptive

rainforest
rainforest
The South American tropical rainforest is a hot, moist land which has existed for nearly 100 million years. Centralized around the Amazon basin of northwestern Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia, it covers nearly 1.5 million square miles (3.88 million square kilometers). This unique ecosystem is almost entirely covered with giant trees which are home to a vast array of animal and plant life; 50% of all the world’s plant and animal species by some estimates. (Five hundred years ago, that number was closer to 75%.) Scientists believe that a typical four square-mile patch of rainforest contains up to 1,500 species of flowering plants, 750 species of trees, 400 species of birds (one-fifth of all the world’s bird population), and some 30 million species of insects--including 150 species of butterflies alone. Many of these species are indigenous to this specific area and exist nowhere else in the world.

With temperatures hovering near 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35 Celsius) during the day and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21 Celsius) at night, and annual rainfall between 80 and 400”, this part of the world has no seasonal changes, meaning flowers and
fruits are produced year-round. And like all tropical rainforests around the globe, this ecosystem is almost completely dependent on the massive trees that inhabit it, with much of the annual rainfall the result of moisture evaporating from the vast tree canopies and falling back to the rainforest floor. Thick mists can be seen rising above the trees each night and early morning--evidence that this life-affirming cycle continues.

Depending on location, the environment within the rainforest can be quite different due to the varying amounts of sunlight that can filter down through the thick canopy overhead. On the rainforest floor where only 2% of the light can generally reach, ground cover is virtually non-existent, the soil nutrient poor--all
leaves, carrion, and animal droppings being quickly broken down by insects such as cutter ants and termites, and directly absorbed back into the surrounding vegetation. Massive tree roots grow in thick tangles above the ground in these areas, keeping the depleted soil from washing away during the frequent downpours. In brighter areas such as that illustrated above, trees, saplings, vines, and smaller plants grow so lush that it’s nearly impenetrable except by ground mammals (such as ocelots, giant anteaters, peccaries, capybaras, and Maned wolves), and reptiles and amphibians (like iguanas, boas, coral snakes, and frogs like the poison arrow). At waters’ edge you can readily find caiman, anaconda, and a variety of other well-adapted reptiles patrolling their prized niches. But it is in the trees above that most rainforest life takes place.

In the lower canopy of the forest (which extends up to about 70 feet/21 meters above the forest floor), many tree-dwelling
mammals such as sloths, didelphid possums, larger monkeys like howlers, and weasels make their homes. Jaguars, ocelots, and other jungle cats are frequently seen in the lower branches, perfectly poised to pounce on unsuspecting tapir or deer as they forage the thickets below. In the middle canopy (which extends to about 100 feet/30.5 meters above the floor), several varieties of monkeys, bats, lizards, tree snakes, and a vast array of birds such as fly catchers, pigmy owls, huatzins, hummingbirds, and toucans can be found competing for food. And in the upper canopy (which extends as high as 230 feet/70 meters or more above ground level), a great many species of larger birds (such as eagles and macaws), small reptiles (a veritable army of lizards), and most smaller species of monkeys can be found filling the sprawling branches. All levels of the forest live in an interdependent web of niches, each related to those above and below. This is the world into which the emperor tamarin has adapted. But unlike its primate brethren, it has learned to exploit all four domains of the rainforest with relative ease.

Rainforest primate society

New World monkeys
New World monkeys
The rainforest of South America is home to a great selection of monkeys including capuchins, wakaris, white-faced sakis, spider monkeys, pigmy marmosets, owl monkeys, Goeldi’s monkeys, titis, and several species of tamarins including brown mantled, saddlebacks, and emperors. Although monkeys are considered the most social of all mammals, it can easily be said that emperor tamarins’ adaptive strategies have made it the most socially successful of all primates living in this exotic environment. While rainforest monkeys typically live in groups of 10-12 who feed, mate, and protect their young as a cohesive unit, most groups seem to prefer to inhabit individual niches which they readily defend against other monkeys--including invading troops of their own species.

Emperor tamarins, however, not only maintain tight group unity, they also establish close-knit relationships with other tamarin groups, as well as maintain long-lasting mixed-species associations with other primates with whom they routinely feed, forage, travel, and defend common feeding ranges. Additionally, emperor tamarins typically learn the signaling systems of other monkeys in order to stay alerted to food supplies and common enemies such as the large weasel-like mammal, the tyra, and predatory birds like the harpy eagle.

Like most monkeys, the tamarin diet consists primarily of
flowers, fruits, insects, sap, small lizards, and the occasional bird egg. But with the special ability to distinguish plants from great distances (that would appear identical to the human eye while one is poison and the other, highly tasty and nutritious), the special arrangements they maintain with other mammals (like the pigmy marmoset that controls tree gum supplies), and the mixed-species good-will co-ventures they initiate, emperors not only enjoy a high level of feeding options, their special adaptive prowess makes for exceptional social relations for all those involved. With this highly organized (and quite intelligent) social system, the various monkey troops need not waste time or energy visiting feeding spots only to discover that another troop has already beat them to it. Instead, these mixed-species troops feed side by side, moving from feeding spot to feeding spot in coordinated tandem. And while tamarins seldom need to venture far from their niche, they are known to utilize other niches throughout the rainforest ecosystem--and sometimes seem to explore driven merely by curiosity.

Inside the primate circle

Male with young
Male with young
Rare among primate societies, it is the female who dominates among emperor tamarins. Living a polyandrous mating system with 10-12 unrelated adults typically constituting a group, males generally outnumber females 2-3 to 1, with males always taking responsibility for the rearing of offspring. It is the eldest female who usually leads the group, often maintaining mating relationships with all the males of her harem. Females usually giving birth to twins, requiring the males of the troop to care for the offspring (for a minimum of three months), which involves carrying them on their backs and delivering them to the mother for nursing while she is off on frequent feeding excursions taking in the nourishment she requires to produce milk. Throughout the course of a typical day, females can be herd chattering to the males (conveyed in a series of little chirps) as if to instruct them of their responsibilities while they’re away with the feeding parties. Although grooming is an important social behavior among many primates, it does not seem to be the case among tamarins, though they do appear affectionate.

Mating

Female (offering sex)
Female (offering sex)
Within this polyandrous society, it is the female who decides when, where, and with whom mating will take place. Using her tongue to signal sexual interest, the female simply makes a specific chirping sound followed by the sticking out of her tongue at the male she wishes to engage her. Showing no apparent partiality or long-term preference, tamarin females usually mate with two or more males in the course of a given day (quick, non-aggressive trysts on a leaf-covered tree limb) whether in heat or not, which helps maintain unity among the troop as each male assumes responsibility for the offspring that result.

Tamarin females enter
estrus twice yearly, with gestation taking between 140 to 145 days. Since tamarins commonly give birth to twins (triplets are not uncommon) and usually live for 15 years or more, a female may produce 60 offspring throughout the course of her lifetime.

Final notes

Zoo
Zoo
While the emperor tamarin can be viewed in captivity in zoos and preserves around the world, it’s important to acknowledge that only in the wilds of the rainforest does it encounter the variety of stimuli that motivates the array of adaptive behaviors it has developed. Only among the vast array of social niches that exist in the rainforest--where countless random interactions and variables come into play--can the tamarins’ special adaptations be truly appreciated. Although all primates of the rainforest display remarkable adaptation, overcoming challenges we humans would be hard-pressed to master, the emperor tamarin does so with particular facility and what one might be tempted to refer to as finesse. And while natural beauty is often what initially attracts us to creatures such as these, it should be noted that the emperor tamarin is not just another pretty face

X Factor reject, but Why?

Last week, whilst watching XFactor, I was entertained by the zaniness of Shirlena Johnson. She was different, and I was attracted by her routine, and her absolute determination to win both the judges and the audience over. Judging by the response, and the know ledge that the judges had put her through to the next round, I was pleased to think I would be seeing more diverse routines by her in the future.

But it is now reported that she has been dropped from the show because she is on medication for depression. This is because she took the death of her father Charles, last year, very badly.

But although she has suffered because of the loss of her father, it hasn’t stopped Shirlena from plucking up the courage to enter X Factor. She so wants to give her 3 year old daughter Mariah a better life, and get away from Whitechapel. I applaud her for this.

If all the people who suffered from stress, and were on medication were not allowed to perform, there wouldn’t be many of them left, because everyone needs a bit of medical help through the bad times. Some people have been been known to appear on TV whilst under the influence of drugs or alcohol. I am not saying this is right, but I do think that Shirlena should be allowed to improve the life of herself and her daughter, because being inspired to do well in X Factor might just be the tonic she needs to get her life back on track. She should not be penalised for being on medication, she should be encouraged and supported for her true grit.

Queen of Accessories

Coleen Rooney has been photographed looking glamorous as ever as she enjoyed doing a spot of shopping with a friend in Liverpool high street.

Coleen who is clearly already on the way to losing the weight she gained while pregnant with son Kai, now three-months-old, brightened up the dreary weather in her suave, red chiffon dress.

After embarking on an intense diet and exercise regime following Kai’s birth, Coleen has been photographed looking increasingly slim, and the inspirational mother of one has enjoyed showing off her returning slim figure in a series of figure hugging outfits.

Coleen admitted she was in no rush to loose the weight but she did comment. ‘Because I am short, I sometimes look bigger than I am, especially in pictures.’

The accessory queen paired the red dress with a classic, black structured jacket, tights and shoe boots. She also added a designer Chanel handbag and a cheeky animal print scarf to complete the look. Shoes and bags, scarf’s and bangles, the 23-year-old WAG has got the perfect, matching accessories for every occasion.

But the best accessory of all was undoubtedly the red United Colours of Benetton shopping bag, which, much to Mrs Rooney’s embarrassment was coincidently an identical colour to her day dress.

Sexiest Short Celebrity Hairstyles

Short hairstyles have never been more popular. With lots of celebrities from singers to film stars sporting a whole range of shorter styles, women have been inspired and are trying these looks for themselves. There is a short style out there to suit all face shapes, hair textures and personalities. Whether you like your hair natural and wavy or short and spiky, lots of looks can be achieved with modern short cuts that are full of layers and texture. Short cuts are easier and quicker to style than long hair, which is ideal for girls who do not want to be a slave to their style

Lady Gaga funny facts or quotes

Lady Gaga is just a normal girl after all?
Strange clothing is understatement when it comes to describing Stefan Geminate or Lady Gaga as we know it most. In Crete, white hair, ridiculous maundering and the extraordinary advance came to most locations is probably more appropriate description of the young singers.

But recently discovered in searches where the original video girl turns out. Because she is with long dark hair and dressed in a very normal way. The video shows where she is to sing the club in New York in 2006, but it is not so yak old!

There is Stefan, rather small with wild hair and bilked, leggings and a white heel boots and sings for the guests. This is probably quite far from the image she has created as a Lady Gaga. But though she sings as well and now today as seen in the video is below

Death Of Our Loved Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson is probably the most famous person in the world. He started the music, had the best moves that people today are dying to learn it.

Sadly on June 25, 2009 Michael Jackson was said to dead. No one believed it at first, I was on a plane when I hear about it. I said no it is just a joke, he is not dead he can't be . He was at home at the time of his death, paramedics came to save him, and the 911 call came in at 12:21:04 p.m. They took him to the medical center but no luck.
He Suffered from Cardiac Arrest.
Conrad Murray, was the person who found Michael, lying down on the floor in his room, not breathing. He attempted to do CPR, but didn't work.
Some people say that he was on painkillers for his insomnia, that he over took them and died.

The police took this case serious and started looking in to the reasons of his death. It is said to be a homicide, a mix of drugs in his body was the cause of his death. Police are trying to put down the doctor who has been given Michael these drugs. Maybe he wanted him dead? Maybe it was an accident? Who knows.

The public never gets all the good details, we get the false once, a random story or too much of the real stuff. This happened 1 day before he was suppose to perform 'This is it' in London at the O2 arena. Instead there was a Public memorial service on July 7th, 2009 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles where everyone attended. This was where he had been rehearsing before his concert; he arrived around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 2. Michael was complaining of the Laryngitis. So he didn't rehearse till 9:00 p.m. And the rehearsal went on all night. The staff that was present at the time said he was fine and had lots of energy.
The next morning, no one saw Michael, he didn't come out of his room, and apparently he didn't even get out of bed, as that was where he was found.

Too skinny...

I hate flipping through magazines sometimes. Inside lots of them, are celebrities that are far too skinny. Models are the worst of them. When girls look through these magazines, they feel the need to have to be that thin. A lot of girls think that if they are that thin, they'll live glamorous lives and have all the boys at their feet. Sure, there are boys like that, but if a guy is only with you because you're super thin and all your bones are showing, then why be with him?

Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell are too perfect examples of models that are EXTREMELY thin. They has been lots of scandals about how Kate Moss is doing cocaine and other drugs to stay thin. How come anorexia is becoming the new black? Why is it cool to be a bag of bones?

In search of God

“Where is God?” had been the puzzling question in a young man’s mind. He set out to find the answer. He roamed about here and there asking every one he met to answer his great question.
All he met told him that there is God and He is the creator of everything. He is the sole reason for everything in life.
“Can you show me where God lives?” he asked a great sage sitting under meditation at the foot of the Himalayas. It was a serene place of silence. There were many more ashrams.
“God is everywhere. You can meet him if you sit under meditation and listen to Him,” the sage readily assured him the way to find God.
“He is everywhere, in everyone and in everything,” the sage repeated his assurance.
“Then, please accept me as your disciple,” The young man sat with him under the tree, following the instructions of the sage. He followed the austere rules the Guru had ordered him.
After a few days the disciple asked his Guru, “Can you show me God now?” He was in a hurry to find God.
“Okay, if you are so anxious, you can find him,” The Guru took him through the trees of the forest.
They roamed here and there and at last decided to return to the ashram. On the way, they saw an elephant charging towards the disciple. A mahout was running behind the elephant.
“Get away or you will be hurt. The elephant is wild,” the mahout shouted and warned the disciple.
But the disciple thought, “If God is everywhere, He should be in the elephant and in me. Would He attack Himself? No, therefore the elephant won’t attack me.” The disciple was just standing on the way unmoved.
The elephant ran towards him, picked him up with his trunk and hurled him to the side. Fortunately he caught hold of a branch and escaped from anything serious. But he was terribly shocked and confused. He was wondering if the logic of his Guru was wrong.
“If God is there this shouldn’t have happened,” his reasoning was insisting more and more.
The Guru came near him. He was smiling.
“Guruji, you said God is everywhere and in everything. But see what the elephant has done to me.”
“It is true that God is everywhere and in everything,” replied the Guru. “He is also in the mahout who was warning you to get out of the way. Why didn’t you listen to him?”

Our reasoning is like this most of the time. We wish that God should do whatever we demand Him. We complain and disapprove Him. We never try to listen to Him.

Remembering Elvis Presley

Could anyone ever forget him? When I was 14 years old, I fell in love with this incredibly handsome man, he swivelled his hips, and reached right into your heart with his intense dark eyes, and rich and powerful voice. Not only was he a rock singer, he sang ballads, and put such feeling and emotion into every performance, I was hooked by the enigma that was Elvis Presley.

My school friends and I put on our full skirts with the frilly petticoats every Saturday, and then took it in turns to have an “Elvis Rock Afternoon” at our own house, so smitten were we, and we played his records over and over until they became warped , but we didn’t care. Elvis was our world.

As I progressed through my teens Elvis became the huge star that he still is today. I cried when he married Priscilla, although I secretly thought they were the perfect couple. Lisa Marie was born a day before my second daughter, which made me feel a sort of affinity to Elvis.

I saw all of his films, and envied all his leading ladies. I loved his mean and moody look, but also I loved the way his eyes lit up, and how transformed his face was when he smiled. He had the most beautiful smile. In fact he was a very beautiful man, courteous and respectful to others. He was the poor boy who made good , and his music gave pleasure to so many, and continues to even now.

Elvis had that indefinable quality that sets certain people apart from others. We now call it the X Factor, but in those days it was much harder to become known. He was also a very religious man, who sang gospel songs, and although he kept it to himself, he supported many charities, and never forgot where he came from.

Elvis was , and for me will always be, the King of Rock and Roll. When he died, it was such a huge loss to the world of music because he is irreplaceable. No wonder some people still imagine he might be alive. He had such a powerful effect on people. He may be gone, but Elvis lives on in my heart.
